Coffee from Kenya is of the "Colombia mild" type, and known for intense flavor, full body, and pleasant aroma with a note of cocoa. High grade coffee from Kenya remains one of the most sought-after coffees in the world, as acidic soil in the highlands of central Kenya combine with the right levels of sunlight and rainfall to provide the ideal coffee growing conditions. Perhaps best known as "Kenya AA," this is actually a classification, as Kenyan coffee is graded after it is milled based on the size of the bean. The coffee industry in Kenya is based on a system of cooperatives, with over 70% of coffee grown by small scale producers. It is estimated that there are over 150,000 coffee farmers in Kenya, and roughly 6 million Kenyans are employed in one form or another in the coffee industry.
